A most unique answer from the Rebbe to a Chassid, instructing him to set time for study:

    Translation:

You should set times to learn Nigleh and to learn Chassidus, studying them both l’migras, i.e., to  “cover ground” and gain general proficiency, as well as l’iyun, in depth.

In accordance with the ruling of Chazal, this should be done with effort and toil and don’t fool around with this — and why even would you*? For through “you toiling in Torah” we are promised that “ I will give your rain in its time” etc.

    This, unlike the minhag Poilen…

[This last sentence, apparently relates to the derech of “Polish” non-Chabad Chassidus which doesn’t put an emphasis on in depth study of Chassidus, rather more on more external Chassidishe practices.]

*A loose translation of the Talmudic expression מהיכי תיתי, which literally means «where would you bring it from?
