    French photographer Mordechai Lubecki recently visited Riga, the capital of Latvia, where he toured vicinity of the apartment building where the Frierdiker Rebbe lived with his family in Riga.

    After the final release on the Chag Hageulah of 12-13 Tammuz, the Rebbe had to leave Russia together with his family. They left at the end of Tishrei 5688 for Riga.

    He lived at what is today Pulkveža Brieža iela 10, on the third floor.

    From Riga the Rebbe set out on his visits to Eretz Yisroel and the United States, these journeys were also part of his efforts to help the Jews of Russia.

    In 5693, The Friediker Rebbe established Tomchei Temim in Riga, where Rabbi Mordechai Pogramansky, a Talmid of the Telz Yeshivah served as the Rosh Yeshiva.

    The Frierdiker Rebbe saw Riga only as a temporary haven. Immediately following arriving in Riga, Chabad Chassidim in Poland requested that the Rebbe settle in Poland – The center of Jewish life at the time.

    The Frierdiker Rebbe lived there in Riga for the time being until 5693 (1933), when he then moved to Warsaw, the capital of Poland. And then to Otvosk (Otwock) in 5695 (1935).
