As always, when Israel’s Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu wants to stay current on the goings on in Chabad in Eretz Yisroel and the world over, he turns to his trusted friend, Chairman of Chabad’s Mitzvah Tanks and of Tzivos Hashem of Eretz Yisroel, Rabbi Dovid Nachshon, for a familiar meeting and fresh update.
This week they both met in the Knesset. When Mr. Netanyahu heard that Rabbi Nachshon arrived, he left his chambers to greet him. After a warm hug, the Prime Minister asked to relay his message of encouragement to the Shluchim from across the world in honor of the Kinus Hashluchim.
A member of Netanyahu’s staff told him that Chabad doesn’t attribute in the slightest, any expressions of “Histalkus” in connection to the Rebbe. Netanyahu replied “The Rebbe Shlita! You forgot that you are speaking to an old time Chabadnik!”
They spoke of the need to meet more frequently, in light of the Rebbe’s directive to Rabbi Nachshon that he serve as the personal envoy to Mr. Netanyahu. Mr. Netanyahu was delighted at the suggestion and directed his close aides to see to make that a reality, while reminding of the enormous influence his famous meeting with the Rebbe — when he had been Israel’s UN Ambassador — had on him, and that, according to Mr. Netanyahu, continues to influence him to this day.
Mr. Netanyahu wished the movement success, and especially for Chabad’s vaunted Mitzvah Tanks and the Tzvios Hashem children’s organization, both under the directorship of Rabbi Nachshon.
Other Knesset members used the opportunity to have brief meetings with Rabbi Dovid Nachshon.
