This past Shabbos, a group of liberal Jews insolently protested in front a Chabad House on campus, in Austin, Texas. A small group of young adults affiliated with “IfNotNow” came out in protest of the guest speaker, former IDF soldier: Leibel Mangel, who was due to deliver a speech that Shabbos afternoon.

IfNotNow is an American Jewish progressive group opposing the Israeli state and ‘occupation’. It is known for its extreme views and invasive methods of garnering the media’s attention.

Protestors of IfNotNow impeded attendees’ access to the building and videotaped congregants. Not only did they have the audacity to blatantly shout out anti-Israel propaganda, they also chose to do so on Shabbos, right in front of the Shul. They shockingly targeted young children who were attending Shul, by shouting slurs and trying to strike up conversation.

Leibel Mangel was targeted with hatred, death threats and threats of violence. Despite the hate, Leibel spoke out to the community.

He relayed his experience as a grandson to a courageous holocaust survivor. He shared about his recent visit to Auschwitz together with his grandfather, portraying a beautiful message of hope.

He was one of the soldiers who found the bodies of the innocent Israeli boys who were murdered by Hamas terrorists. He shared the personal impact it had left on him.

There was no agenda and no political endorsement in his speech. Rather it was Leibel sharing his own experience, and the personal struggle he endured.

The IfNotNow group, lied about what was discussed in this event and painted a deceptive picture on social media. They deceptively lied to the media, and justified their actions.

If only these Jews used this venomous energy for the good. What a beautiful world we would live in.
