Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at approximately 7:00 PM a Crown Heights Shmira member was on the way home from work when he noticed a struggle transpiring inside a pawn shop on Flatbush Avenue between Winthrop and Hawthorn Streets. He quickly pulled over to investigate and upon closer inspection saw the assailant holding a hammer. Noticing an unmarked police vehicle half a block away, he quickly flagged it down and pointed the detectives in the direction of the pawn shop.
The perpetrator saw the detectives approaching and fled, dropping the hammer and his wallet in the process. They attempted to give chase, but the perpetrator quickly disappeared up a side street. Later, the manager told police “I’m here 10 years and never had something like this happen to me”. Thanks to the good eye and quick response of the Shmira member, a robbery and assault was thwarted.
If you have any information regarding this robbery please contact the 71st Precinct Detectives squad at 718-735-0500.
