In the late hours of Thursday night, a young Lubavitcher and his wife returned to their apartment in a building on Montgomery Street at the corner of Utica, holding the door for a young African-American man, who entered after them.
The man suddenly grabbed the Lubavitche’s throat and tried to strangle him at the entrance to the building.
While the Lubavitcher male confronted the assailant, another dark-skinned woman entered the building and approached the young man’s wife, threatening to stab her. The woman managed to escape to the elevator, while her husband escaped the assailant to the stairwell.
The attackers chased them up the stairs and when the yungerman ran out of the building, another group of African-American males grabbed him and pinned him to one of the vehicles on the street, threatening to stab him.
Fortunately, cries of help sounded from the surroundings and the group ran away.
The couple were terrified, but especially grateful to Hashem that the attack did not end worse.
Crown Heights Shomrim was called and a complaint was filed with the New York Police Department.
