As the community continues to grow, the call volume continues to grow and the need for more qualified volunteers is needed.
Shmira was founded in 1964 originally named the ‘Maccabees’ founded by Rabbi Samuel Schrage; its goal in mind was to counter the rise in crime in the community.
In addition to responding to emergency calls and regular patrols, Shmira has grown into an organization that the community relies on for events including Siyum Sifrei Torah’s, Levaya’s and other identical events to provide pedestrian saftey. As well as extra patrols in the neighborhood during special occasions such as the Kinus Hashluchim, Tishrei, C-Teen and serves as a community liason to the Police Department, and much more.
In 2021, Shmira responded to over
● 500+ emergency calls such as, assaults in progress, home break-ins, car break-ins, property theft, and suchlike.
● 300+ non emergency calls.
● Covered over 45 special events in the community.
● Logged over 15,000 hours of Marked Patrol.
