Police arrested a 13-year-old Brooklyn teenager armed with a gun who attempted to steal a bike from a store owner last month in Crown Heights.
The attempted robbery took place on July 21 in front of the Gourmet Butcher grocery store located at 351 Troy Avenue, police said. The teen, whose name has not been released because he is a juvenile, attempted to cut the chain of a bike outside the store using bolt cutters. The store manager and another man confronted the teen about the theft. After the two men took the cutter away from the suspect, the teenager pulled out a black firearm, demanding the cutter be returned, cops said.
Surveillance video from the location captured the entire incident, with detectives at the 71st precinct working on identifying the teen. In early August, the detectives from the 71st precinct asked the detectives at the 77th precinct if they recognize the teen, with one detective positively identifying the teen as an individual living in the 73rd precinct area.
The detective recognized him from a robbery the teen committed on July 23. In that robbery, the teen also attempted to steal a bike from a 10-year-old boy at gunpoint.
The teen was charged with robbery, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, sources said.
