The Gabboim of 770 are raising $100,000 for Maos Chitim to provide more than 200 Crown Heights families with their Pesach supplies.

For most people in our community, the thought of Pesach approaching is a cause for happiness. Pesach is a joyous holiday; a time to spend surrounded with family and friends.

For many families, though, the thought of Pesach arouses feelings of sadness, shame, and dread. Sadness that they can’t afford a Yom Tov meal. Shame that their children will wear torn clothing to shul. And dread at the thought of paying off Pesach bills for the rest of the year.

The 770 Maos Chitim fund was founded with a clear goal in mind: To ensure that every family in Crown Heights can celebrate Pesach with dignity. Whether it be matzah and wine for their seder, new clothing for their children or food for Yom Tov meals, the Maos Chitim fund provides local Crown Heights families the funds to truly celebrate Pesach with joy.

As the Rebbe reiterated on many occasions, the happiness of every individual community member is intimately tied to, and dependent upon, the happiness of their neighbor. “You can’t be completely happy if your neighbor is not happy,” were the words the Rebbe wrote to describe
the value of Maos Chitim (אג”ק א, ניסן תשט”ו).

This year, the Maos Chitim fund aims to raise $100,000 – enough to provide 200 Crown Heights families with their basic Pesach needs. Raising such an amount will be a communal effort, one that will require each and every community member’s participation.

“We’re asking you to please consider the simchah you experience on Yom Tov, and help another family in our community experience the same simchah too,” said Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Kratz, Director of the 770 Maos Chitim fund.

Contributions to this year’s Maos Chitim fund can be made at www.maoschitim.org or by calling 718-774-1770. All funds raised will be distributed directly to local Crown Heights families in need.
