    With great sadness, we regret to inform you of the passing of Rabbi Sholom Mendel Simpson, OB”M, one of the Rebbe’s Mazkirim and director of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch. He passed away today, the 29th of Tammuz.

    Rabbi Simpson held many important positions, in addition to being the Rebbe’s secretary and director of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch, he was a board member of Aguach and Machane Yisrael, one of the directors of Kupas Rabbeinu and the Rov of the Brighton Beach Jewish Center.

    Today was his 90th birthday.

    He was born in New York to Rabbi and Mrs. Eliyahu Simpson. His father was a well-known Chossid, Reb Eliyahu was a Choizer by the Rebbe Rashab and Mazkir of the Frierdiker Rebbe, and his mother, Mrs. Fruma Itta was the daughter of the Chossid Reb Shua Binyomin Lipschitz of Kublitz.

    As a Bochur, he was asked by the Rebbe to join the Mazkirus and be a part of the team writing the letters for the Rebbe.

    He was later tasked with putting together the volumes of Igros Kodesh of the Rebbe.

    He merited that the Rebbe was Mesader Kiddushin at his Chasunah, after first saying a Sicha.

    He is survived by his children, Yossi – Crown Heights, Avrohom – Crown Heights, Ari – Crown Heights, Dovid – Sheepshead Bay, Faygie Wilschansky – Crown Heights, Kraindy Borenstein – Crown Heights and Mashie Prager – Crown Heights. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    He is also survived by his sisters, Rebbetzin Kraine Rosenfeld from Boro Park, and Mrs. Esther Goldman from Crown Heights.

    He was predeceased by his wife, Rebbetzin Rochel (nee Teleshevsky) Simpson, OB”M.

    The Levaya will take place Friday, leaving Shomrei Hadas in Boro Park at about 9:45 and passing by 770 at about 11:30.
