David Chase. After battling Parkinson’s for the last few years of his life he returned his soul to his creator at the age of 87.
In the later 80’s David Chase was listed as one of wealthiest people in the country.
One of the well-known stories told about Chase is from the ground-breaking ceremony of 770 in the year of 5748, where the Rebbe formed a ‘deal’ with Mr. Chase that he will only attend if chase were to speak in Yiddish.
At the ceremony, Chase said a full speech in English and concluded with stating the Mishnah:
“איזהו חכם, המכיר את מקומו”
Chase then said: I’m not a ‘Chochom’, but i am truly privileged to be here. All i could tell you, he said to the Rebbe:
.”איך לייב דיר, זייער זייער, א סאך”
His closing words brought a broad smile to the Rebbe’s face.
David is survived by his wife Rhoda Chase, children Cheryl Freedman and Arnold L. Chase; as well as many grandchildren.
May the Al-Mighty comfort them together with all mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
