With great sadness we regret to inform you of the passing of Rabbi Asher Zelig Gottlieb, OB”M, a longtime member of the Crown Heights community. He passed away this morning, Tuesday, Vov Nissan. He was 71-years old.
He has reportedly passed away after contracting the Coronavirus.
R’ Asher Zelig learned in Lubavitch Yeshiva on Bedford and Dean, followed by a year of Lubavitch Yeshiva in Newark, NJ followed by 7 years in 770.
He was a well-known figure at Empire Shtiebel in Crown Heights. For many years he would go every week on Mivtzoim to Coney Island Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Chana Rivka (nee Bart) and children Zeldy Liberow – Colorado Springs, Co: Devorie Gansburg – Crown Heights; Malky Schmukler – League City, TX; Dina Sasonkin – Crown Heights; Brocha Rendler – Crown Heights; Raizy Margolin – Cleveland, OH; Sari Gottlieb – Crown Heights; and Mendy Gottlieb – Montreal, Canada; as well as many grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brothers, Yankel Gottlieb of Crown Heights; Naftali Gottlieb of Crown Heights (please do not inform him of the passing), and Betzalel Gottlieb of Detroit.
