With great sadness we regret to inform you of the passing of Rabbi Shmuel Chefer, OB”M, well-respected Chossid and dean of the Beis Rivkah Seminary of Kfar Chabad. He passed away over Shabbos, the 17th of Nissan. He was 89-years-old.
He passed away due to a heart attack over Shabbos.
He got married to Rivkah, the daughter of Reb Yosef Chaim Rosenblum, OB”M, one of the respected Chassidim of Tel Aviv. After his wedding, he became active in Chabad activities, first in the Reshet schools and then in Beis Rivkah of Kfar Chabad.
At the Rebbe’s instructions, in 5721, he took over the struggling Beis Rivkah school which he transformed into a successful enterprise. In response to his new appointment, he traveled to the Rebbe and received numerous Ho’raos. The Rebbe asked to distance the girls’ school from the boys’ schools, and suggested establishing the town of Kfar Chabad Beis adjacent to the original Kfar Chabad to house the Beis Rivkah campus.
In addition, Rabbi Chefer headed the committee for Shleimus Ha’am, and was vice chairman of Aguch of Eretz Yisroel for many years.
He addressed notable Lubavitch events around Eretz Yisroel, including the famous Kinus in 5755 in Tel Aviv attended by Rabbi Marlow of the Crown Heights Beis Din, at which Rabbi Chefer served as the emcee.
He was a member of the Irgun Gag, the umbrella group of all Lubavitch Mosdos and communities across Eretz Yisroel, alongside Rabbi Ephraim Wolf, Rabbi Shlomo Maidanchik and Rabbi Leibel Kaplan.
Rabbi Chefer received many Kiruvim from the Rebbe, over the years.
He is survived by his wife Rivkah, and his children, Rabbi Moshe Chefer – Kfar Chabad; Rabbi Menachem Mendel Chefer – Kfar Chabad; Mrs. Devorah Shikovtzky; and Mrs. Naavah Slonim – Modi’in, ER”Y; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
