Rabbi Sholom and Goldie Eagle (nee Wasserman), together with their daughter Toby, recently moved to Malibu, California to establish a welcoming Chabad presence at Pepperdine University. Sholom and Goldie will be working together with Chabad of Malibu to provide a warm and non-judgmental home for Jewish students.

Sholom is originally from Baltimore and Goldie is from Toronto. They moved to Malibu at the beginning of the academic year and have already been received with great enthusiasm by the students, faculty and administration at Pepperdine. They have witnessed the strong need for a permanent Chabad presence on campus.

Pepperdine University is ranked in the top 50 schools in the U.S. Students are attracted to the institution for its world-renowned academia and the Caruso School of Law and Graziadio Business School, among many other programs offered. The college also boasts breathtaking views of the Pacific Coast.

“Goldie and I hit the ground running and have met lots of students and hosted delicious Shabbos meals featuring cuisines from around the world,” Rabbi Eagle said. “We also built a Sukkah on campus with the full support of the University and hosted an amazing ‘Sushi in the Sukkah’ event, which was the first Jewish experience on campus for dozens of students.” Rabbi Eagle noted that “an added benefit which is so gratifying is that the faculty members have been 100% supportive of our efforts to promote Jewish life on campus.”

This was the first year in the history of Pepperdine University that a large public Menorah was displayed on campus.

The Eagles were appointed by Rabbi Levi and Sarah Cunin, directors of Chabad of Malibu and Rabbi Shlomo Cunin, Head Shliach of California and Nevada.

Your donations will help students embrace their Jewish identity, provide a loving home and family on campus, and enable them to enjoy inspiring Shabbos and holiday meals.
