The “Oholei Tzadikim” organization, directed by Rabbi Yisrael Meir Gabay, has completed a momentous project for the Chabad community.

In a recent trip to Eastern Europe, the organization was able to locate various cemeteries which include the grave sites of Chabad Historical figures. In each location, the cemetery was located, and the approximate location of the grave.

The organization then placed monuments on each of these cemeteries, specifying the Tzadikim who are buried there.

    The full list:

    1) The Alter Rebbe’s brother, HaRav HaTzadik Yehuda Leib of Yanovich, known as the Maharil, passed away in the city of Yanovich, Ukraine, and was buried in the local cemetery there. Despite efforts by the local Non-Jewish community to eradicate the cemetery, by destroying the headstones and building houses, Rabbi Gabay was able to locate the location of the cemetery and place a monument.

However, the cemetery was destroyed, and only after locating an old Jewish lady in the city, Rabbi Gabay was able to locate the location of the cemetery and place a monument.

    3) The Tzemach Tzedek had descendants in the city of Lyadi, Ukraine, who served as the Rebbes of the Chabad-Lyadi dynasty, among them were HaRav HaTzadik Chaim Schneur Zalman Schneerson and his son HaRav HaTzadik Yitzchok DovBer Schneerson, known as the Maharid. The local museum in town was able to provide Rabbi Gabay with old maps which included the location of the cemetery, where he placed a monument.
