We are all still amazed and uplifted from the great miracle of the release of Reb Shalom Mordechai Rubashkin. Besides the great Simcha of our fellow brother being released from the barbaric hand of Sonei Yisroel, there is yet another amazing Simcha, which is, how this story united the Frum world in a manner that nobody remembered in their lifetime, such unity in Klal Yisroel!

Many people are asking, how did this happen that davka this issue brought all Yidden together?

I would like to suggest that perhaps what was so powerful in this case was that it encompassed the greatest powers of bad and Tumah and at the very same time the greatest level of good and Kedusha.

After the Holocaust, the world changed in a fundamental way. In many countries, blatant anti-Semitism was unacceptable and generally speaking, could not succeed. Yet, in the Rubashkin case, there was blatant anti-Semitism and not only did it succeed but, it was protected by the judicial system and the government.

On the other hand when a person is facing a near-life sentence it is almost impossible to remain strong and optimistic. Yet, Shalom Mordechai showed extraordinary Emunah and Bitachon and remained strong not only throughout his trial but, also through the eight years of his imprisonment.

This paradox is perhaps a reflection of the times the Rebbe tells us that we are in. On one hand, the Rebbe tells us “Open your eyes and you will see that Moshiach is here” i.e. the greatest forces of Kedushah are here with us. On the other hand, we are all well aware of the many Tzadiikim who said that before Moshiach comes, there will be a great Milchama from the Sitra Achra to prevent his coming.

May this victory lead us into the Final victory of the Hisgalus of the Rebbe now, Mamush!
