For 3 years, Yeshiva Chok L’Yisroel has run an all-day personalized learning program near the heart of Crown Heights. Its motto shows the uniqueness of their educational approach, “Your Child Will Learn.” The staff of Chok l’Yisroel, in tandem with the newly formed National Foundation for Leadership and Education (NFLE) are now adding a new and vibrant dimension to the program and are opening a Yeshiva Camp called, fittingly, “YeshivaCamp” that will incorporate its unique personalized learning method with a fun and exciting sports and activities program.

The Rebbe’s key point in letter after letter with regard to summer learning is that the relaxed atmosphere makes learning more memorable. The Rebbe also highlights the unique effects that a camp can have on instilling Yiras Shomayim as well as a love for learning in student campers. Chok l’Yisroel’s YeshivaCamp provides the tools to ensure the realization of these effects.

    What is Personalized Learning?

Personalized Learning is based on the Klalei HaChinuch VehaHadrocha set out by the Frierdiker Rebbe. Simply put, chinuch throughout the ages centered upon the talmid, the student. It was known and recognized that each student learns in his or her own individual way and that these differences in understanding are central to the life mission of that student. The Gemara in Eruvin relates how Rav Preida would teach one student each lesson 400 times. One day, even more was needed of him as a teacher. For this, he merited to live for 400 years and for his entire generation to achieve Gan Eden.

In today’s day and age the struggles are harder, yet more opportunity exists than ever before. To raise our children in the Torah true way, we cannot turn our backs on age old wisdom. A classic melamed who lived up to that name would never force one particular method, no matter how worthy or researched it may be. The educational approach of Personalized Learning means that through collaboration of parents, teachers, and educational consultants together we find every child’s personal way to grow in learning and middos development. This must be the goal of today’s mechanchim, whose job it is, together with parents, to ensure that today’s children are alive with Torah, hiskashrus and good character traits.

    A Yeshiva Camp

Chok l’Yisroel’s YeshivaCamp will incorporate hours of personalized learning. It is ideal for both a child who needs a hand up in learning and for a child who is advanced and has become bored or who struggles to find meaning when placed in a larger class. In truth, it is a truly unique method that can ensure the maximization of each child’s potential and academic/character development.

Key to the summer program is the fun and motivational camp aspects. These include weekly swimming, Torah based arts and crafts, interactive multimedia projects and more. These hours reinforce the lessons of learning and teach children how to act in groups in all areas of life.

Rabbi Hershel Moss, Director of Yeshiva Chok L’Yisroel, said, “Our goal is to raise the next generation of Chayolim of the Rebbe and children who are true members of Tzivos Hashem, Hashem’s Army, in all aspects of life. Our children are students who will love and appreciate learning because it means something to each of them personally.”
