When The Cruise Replaced The Mall
When the upscale mall in Fort Myers, Florida told the Shluchim that the Menorah lighting will not be able to take place this year on their premises, Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz struggled with finding an alternative ● The result: hundreds of people participated in a Chanukah Cruise, enjoying a performance by Dr. Laz ● Full Story, Pictures
For the last 20 years Shluchim Rabbi Yitzchok & Nechamie Minkowicz celebrated Chanukah at the upscale Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers Florida. This year 2 months before Chanukah the mall notified them that due to new management & mall renovations they will not be hosting our Grand Chanukah Event.
Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz did not know what to do. But one thing was for sure that we would not despair & would have to create a bigger & better event so that the Rebbes message of Chanukah would be felt even stronger with greater light & excitement.
We decided to look for a boat & do a Chanukah cruise but the biggest boat we found held 90 people so we did not think that we could settle so we kept on looking & we found a 3 story cruise ship that can hold up to 450 people with a dance floor & space for Dinner & entertainment.
With the help of Chana Minkowicz the Daughter of Shluchim Rabbi Yitzchok & Nechamie Minkowicz & Malka Forshner they created a marketing campaign & great program for the adults & children that included a photo booth, clown, face painting, magic show & a great music band led by Dr Laz & a full gourmet Dinner with Sushi & Drinks.
The highlight of the Chabad Chanukah Cruise was the lighting of the Grand Menorah on the roof top of the ship by Dr. James Rubenstein & Dr. Daniel Dosoretz followed by a choir from our very own students of Maimonides Hebrew Day School the songs were taught by Rabbi & Mrs Simon & Sheina Jacobson shluchim in Punta Gorda on the cruise were Shluchim Rabbi & Mrs. Yossi & Rivki Labkowski as well as Rabbi & Mrs Mandy & Luba Greenberg of Bonita Springs.
When everyone left the ship they received Chanukah Menorahs & Chanukah gelt by Rabbi Minkowicz & the Bochrim from Miami who helped to make the event so special.
