Senator Dick Durbin, the senior Senator from Illinois and the second-highest ranking Democrat in the Senate, joined Rabbi Mendy Turen of Chabad of Springfield, Illinois, for the Menorah lighting ceremony at the Old State Capitol on the first night of Chanukah.
The Senator Dick Durbin tweeted after the event. “In honor of the first night of Hanukkah, I stopped by the Old State Capitol in Springfield to light the Menorah with @mendelturen. Thanks for having me and chag sameach to those celebrating across Illinois!”
“We have to work at always spreading light. We have to remember that sharing more and more light, spreading more good deeds to another, that’s how we make the world a better place,” Rabbi Mendy Turen of Chabad of Springfield said.
Chabad of Springfield has 9 large Menorahs located throughout the city. Adding HSHS St. John’s Hospital the list of locations with a tall Menorah in their lobby. We are proud to continue our annual tradition of adding a new large Menorah to the community each year.
