A congratulatory letter was sent today from the prime minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, to the Rabbi of Kyiv, Yonatan Markowitz, on the occasion of his birthday, thanking him for his dedication amid the ongoing Russian war in the country.

The Prime Minister mentioned in his letter about Rebbi Markowitz’s decision not to leave Ukraine and stay in the capital city together with his Jewish community, despite the ongoing attacks by Russia, with the recent help of Iranian drones.

The senior politician has maintained a very close relationship with Rabbi Markowitz for many years. Even on Erev Rosh Hashanah when he was at the UN assembly in New York, Shmyhal made sure to call Rabbi Markowitz and wish him a “happy new year” and to the jews of Ukraine..

The Prime Minister concludes his letter with wishes that “God will continue to help you with the good things you do for the citizens of Ukraine, and for all the Ukrainian society”.
