The Inside Story: A Chassidic Perspective on Biblical Events, Laws, and Personalities, Volume III: Leviticus by Rabbi Yanki Tauber, hits bookstores just as we begin reading this third book of the Torah. This new volume is being met with great anticipation and demand—following the immense popularity of the second volume on Exodus, released last year, and the first volume on Genesis released in 2017.

As he has done so masterfully in his previous works (including the Week in Review, Beyond the Letter of the Law, and Inside Time), author and Chassidic scholar, Rabbi Yanki Tauber, combed through thousands of pages of Torah literature, as seen through the lens of Chassidic thought in the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s teachings, to distill and consolidate the definitive psycho/spiritual themes of each parsha in the book of Leviticus. Rabbi Tauber is renowned for his thoroughness and ability to present the complex and mystical teachings of Torah in a timeless and relevant way to wide and diverse audiences.

The Inside Story, Volume III is a beautifully presented collection of forty-eight essays, each exploring an event or insight from the book of Leviticus to illuminate the big questions of life as well as its most rudimentary concerns. The korbanot (animal offerings) brought in the Holy Temple, the kosher dietary rules, the laws of ritual purity, the festival observances, the Torah’s approach to farming and business, the statutes governing employer-employee relations—all have their counterparts in the spiritual life of the soul.

These insights demonstrate how each and every event in the Torah is never just a simple story, but rather an eternal lesson as relevant today as it was 3,300 years ago. It deciphers and brings forth and deciphers the inner meaning of Biblical events, from the most well-known to the most esoteric. Readers will find themselves discovering new ideas and relating to the depth of these events, gifted with the appreciation and realization of how vital and meaningful the Torah is for our contemporary lives.

This third volume of The Inside Story, of what will be a 5-volume set, is part of a larger “Inside Anthology,” which began with the acclaimed 3-volume Inside Time set, published in 2015.

The Inside Story collection is a perfect addition to every home and library and a memorable gift for Jews of all backgrounds. The style and tone is conducive for personal reading, group study, and as a resource for preparing and teaching Torah classes.
