Lubavitch journalist Mati Tuchfeld has been busy in recent days trying to help the dozens of Bochurim who are stranded in New York after traveling to 770 to spend Yud Shvat with the Rebbe and did not manage to get on a flight before Israel closed it’s skies. Lubavitch journalist Mati Tuchfeld has been busy in recent days trying to help the dozens of Bochurim who are stranded in New York after traveling to 770 to spend Yud Shvat with the Rebbe and did not manage to get on a flight before Israel closed it’s skies. Yesterday, immiediately after Israel set up a committee headed by minister Yuval Steinitz to deal with exceptions to this sky closure, Tuchfeld was on the case trying to pull off a return for these Bochurim.
Tuchfeld stressed to those he was speaking with that in addition to the Bochurim not having proper food and accommodations due to this sudden border closure, the current snowstorm in New York will complicate the situation for all those that were not planning on staying this long and are unprepared for such weather.
For now, it seems that the current snowstorm together with this closure will not allow any special flights to take place until at least after the coming weekend.
According to sources, Tuchfeld spoke to families of those stranded in New York and told them to keep all bills that were incurred from this extended trip as it is very possible that the Israeli government will reimburse those expenses that came from this closure.
