The Jewish Chronicle reports that the musical Come From Away picked up four Olivier Awards, including best new musical, during a ceremony at Royal Albert Hall in London this week.
The musical, written by husband-and-wife Irene Sankoff and David Hein, also won for choreography, sound design and outstanding achievement in music.
Come From Away uses real-life testimony from passengers and crew who were stranded in the small Canadian town of Gander in the aftermath of 9/11. Edgware Chabad Rabbi Levi Sudak is one of the characters portrayed in a moving, multi-faith prayer scene.
Producer Michael Rubinoff, who first conceived of the idea for the show, tweeted that he was “overwhelmed by all the well wishes” the team had received following the win.
