On a state visit to Germany, marking 50 years since the Munich Massacre, Rabbi Yehuda Teichtal, the Chief Rabbi of Berlin met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, First lady Michal Herzog and Bundestag President Bärbel Bas, at the Bundestag (German Parliament).

The president also appreciated Germany’s culture of remembrance and said, “Germany has proven and continues to prove that it devotes considerable efforts to the culture of remembrance and commemoration”. The president began his speech with a Yizkor prayer in honor of the victims of the Munich attack.

Thereafter, the presidential couple visited the exhibition “70 Years of Luxembourg Agreement between Germany, Israel and the Jewish Claims Conference” together with the President of the German Bundestag Bärbel Bas.

Rabbi Teichtal posted on Facebook “We commemorate the victims and show our respect and appreciation to @isaacherzog who, despite difficulties, was able to reach an agreement for the survivors of the murdered. He said he thanks Steinmeier for “the unwavering moral commitment to historic justice” and personal commitment that ultimately enabled an agreement.”
