A haredi Jewish man was stabbed at Jerusalem’s Tzahal Square Sunday, and his condition is moderate. He received treatment from an MDA team before he was evacuated to Shaarei Tzedek hospital, in full consciousness.
The man was reportedly stabbed in the stomach.
The stabber was caught by Mayor Nir Barkat and his bodyguard.
“I was driving with the car next to Tzahal Square when my team suddenly saw a terrorist with a knife right next to us,” Barkat said. “I immediately jumped from the car, together with my bodyguard, he drew his weapon on him and we held on to the terrorist together until police arrived, and immediately took care of the victim, who fortunately was lightly wounded.”
An MDA paramedic, Murad Sultan, who took care of the wounded man, said: “When we arrived, we saw a young man on the sidewalk at the square, near the rail lines close to City Hall, with a bleeding wound in the upper body. He was fully conscious and said that he suddenly felt that he had been stabbed. He added that when the stabber tried to stab him again, he fought him and – with the aid of a wedding present that was in his hand – prevented further wounds.”
A terrorist stabbing attack took place a month ago on a bus in central Tel Aviv, on Begin Road, near Beit Maariv. The terrorist was an Arab man, reportedly from Samaria.
Twelve people were wounded in the stabbing, with 17 receiving treatmentfrom Magen David Adom (MDA). Three were in serious condition, four in moderate condition and five who sustained light injuries. Another seven people were treated for shock
An eyewitness told IDF Radio that two of the wounded were very seriously hurt, having been stabbed “in the brain (and) in the neck.”
