Florida Governor Ron DeSantis entrusts a note requesting prayers for the state and its people to be placed at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, amid speculation about his presidential aspirations • Full Story

Just days after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was inaugurated for his second term, he entrusted Rabbi Schneur Oirechman, a Chabad emissary in Tallahassee, with a note to be placed at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

The note, signed by Governor DeSantis’s Chief of Staff, James Uthmeier, requested prayers for the state of Florida and its people, asking for protection from natural disasters and strength to stand firm in their faith.

The note was placed in the wall, as is customary, by Rabbi Oirechman. The visit to the Western Wall took place amidst speculation about Governor DeSantis’s potential presidential aspirations. During his inauguration speech, which took place on the steps of the Florida Historic Capitol in Tallahassee, Governor DeSantis spoke of the importance of success and freedom, and pledged to fight against “entrenched bureaucrats in DC” and “corporations wielding public power” through his leadership of Florida.

The ceremony was attended by several Jewish community leaders, including Rabbi Alex Kaller and David Milstein, a liaison to the Jewish community and advisor of DeSantis‘ re-election campaign for Jewish and pro-Israel outreach. Governor DeSantis has been praised for his efforts against antisemitism and his support of Israel.
