Southern Arizona’s Mega Challah Bake will be held in your own kitchen this year — with Chabad providing live instructions and entertainment via Zoom, plus ingredients for those who want them.

“It has been a delight to organize and host the Mega Challah Bake of Tucson over the past six years. Alas, the regular gathering will not be possible this year due to the pandemic,” says Feigie Ceitlin, Chabad Tucson program director. Previous bakes were held at the Tucson Jewish Community Center, with assistance from other Chabad leaders and Tucson J staff.

The 2020 event will be held Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. If participants choose, Chabad will provide pre-measured ingredients, instructions, aprons, and baking pans. Three sign-up options are available.

“We will be physically separate yet truly united,” says Mushkie Zimmerman, Chabad of Oro Valley co-director.

The online platform means the annual event is open to women, men and children.

Early-bird tickets are available until midnight on Sept. 7 at MegaChallahTucson.com.

Participants who register by the early-bird deadline will be entered into a raffle for Maggie Glezer’s book, “A Blessing of Bread: The Many Rich Traditions of Jewish Bread Baking Around the World.”
