The Chabad of Chevron Tefillin stand has been operating in the Me’oras Hamachpeila for over ten years, with hundreds of people arriving to Daven there weekly, tourists and soldiers alike.
Rabbi Yonatan Attia, son of Shliach to Chevron, Rabbi Victor Attia, was appointed by Rabbi Danny Cohen to hold the responsibility for the Tefillin stand for the last couple of years. Over the years, Rabbi Attia has been harassed by various organizations who disrespect the activities of Chabad, while ironically also taking the credit at times for his great work.
Sources from the religious council began to complain after years of activity, that Chabad’s Pushkas diminish from their own funds. In response, the Chabad representatives immediately removed their Pushkas from the premises.
On Sunday, these same organizations reached a new low in their harassment. They unabashedly set up a large new fundraising booth for their fund, and “innocently” announced to Rabbi Yonatan Attia that the Tefillin stand would have to move in favor of their stand. In response, Rabbi Attia replied that after all of these years, the stand would not move and cease to continue doing it’s vital work.
Late Monday, in the dark of night, the same people had the audacity to ‘steal’ the Chabad Tefillin stand together with the Tefillin it held, and other religious articles as well.
Many Shluchim from around the world strongly condemned these actions and stand behind the incredible Shluchim to Chevron who practice Mesiras Nefesh on a daily basis.
This is a developing story, ChabadInfo.com will continue to monitor and report any updates.
