The 71st Precinct of the New York City Police Department emailed a notice Tuesday afternoon stating that, following the terrorist attack Tuesday morning in Israel by two Palestinians that killed four Israelis and injured several others, the police would be increasing security measures around synagogues in Crown Heights.

“In light of the recent terrorist attacks in Israel, the 71 Precinct will be stepping up visits and presence at all synagogue located in the confines of the 71 Precinct,” wrote a 71st Pct. spokesperson in an email. “At this time, there is no information on any pending activity in NYC and it is strictly a precautionary measure and to reinsure the community we serve of their safety.”

The two Palestinians who carried out the attack– the deadliest on Israeli civilians in more than three years, and the worst in Jerusalem since 2008– were shot dead, and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the homes of the attackers to be destroyed.

He is now calling for the people of Israel to stand together in the face of a “wave of terror.”
