    Changes Coming to Kingston Avenue

New York City’s Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that it has agreed to comply with requests from the Jewish community and will soon be changing its parking meters on Kingston Avenue.

To accommodate the Crown Heights Jewish community the meters will be having changes.

Until now, it was impossible for observant Jews to park on Kingston Avenue over Shabbos during the winter, as there is a one-hour maximum on the meter until 7:00pm, and Shabbos comes in as early as 4:15pm.

The Department announced on June 8th that parking regulation on the neighborhood main throughway will be amended from one hour to allow four-hour metered parking on Fridays.

It comes in response to requests from Community Board 9, Assemblywoman Diana Richardson, and Council Member Laurie Cumbo to implement adjusted metered parking on Kingston Ave.

The Transportation Committee and Community Board 9 voted unanimously to support the proposal.

The DOT will implant the changes by the end of July 2017.

Wow what an accomplishment… Can’t they just cancel the meters for shabbos?

Now it will cost $4 to park on Kingston over shabbos?
