Lidl, the rapidly expanding supermarket chain, has secured a prime location in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The company has signed a 15-year lease for the ground floor of 1730 Bedford Avenue, a newly constructed building on the corner of Empire Blvd and Bedford Ave. The space, which spans 33,000 square feet, was originally priced at $45 per square foot and is part of a larger development that includes 57 apartments.

The arrival of Lidl in the area marks the end of a long-standing issue of a “food desert” in the community. With the closing of the Associated Supermarket on Nostrand Ave, residents of Crown Heights have been left without a convenient grocery store in the area. The addition of Lidl to the neighborhood is expected to bring much-needed access to fresh and healthy food options for the local community.
