With great sadness we inform you of the passing of Reb Sholom DovBer Levitin, OB”M, a longtime member of the Crown Heights community. He was 73-years-old.

Sholom DovBer Levitin was born to Avraham Yaakov and Malka (nee Minkowitz) Levitin, and is the grandson of the famed Chabad chossid, Reb Shmuel Levitin. He was a fixture in the Crown Heights community, and father of a large Chabad family.

Sholom DovBer, although best known as the ‘candy man’ of 770, was also the one who asked the Rebbe to take out the Rebbes Sefer Torah for the woman in 770.

He is survived by his wife Shterna, and his children: Rivka Greenberg – Houston TX; Rochel Katz – Bal Harbor, FL; Chani Richter – Queens, NY; Malky Levitin – Crown Heights; Esti Levitin – Crown Heights; Shmuli Levitin – Pamona, NY; Mendy Levitin – Hillside, NJ; and Boruch Levitin – Crown Heights; as well as many grandchildren.

He is survived by his siblings: Shaindel Axelrod, Chani Rotenberg, and Temmy Leider of Crown Heights.

He was predeceased by his brother Leima Levitin, OB”M.

Levaya will be held Friday, leaving Shomrei Hadas around 9:30am, passing 770 around 10:15am.

Shiva will be held at 520 crown street apartment #B5.
