    With great sadness we regret to inform you of the passing of Rabbi Mordechai Dov Altein, OB”M, one of the oldest Lubavitch Chassidim. He passed away at 100-years-old.

    Born in 5679, he was sent by the Rebbe Rayatz to establish Yeshivas and schools in Pittsburgh, New Haven and the Bronx of New York. He was one of the first Shluchim.

    He got married in 5704 to Rebbetzin Rochel Altein, the daughter of Sheina and Rabbi Yisroel Jacobson, the Chairman of Agudas Chassidei Chabad in America and a leading Chabad Rov.

    The Rebbe Melech Hamoshiach and Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka attended their Vort. The Altein couple also had the great Zchus that the Rebbe was the Mesader Kidushin at their wedding.

    He is survived by his wife Rebbetzin Rochel, their children Mrs. Chanie Gurarie – Montreal, Canada; Rabbi Avrohom Altein – Winnipeg, Canada; Rabbi Yaakov Leib Altein – Crown Heights; Mrs. Sara Pinson – Nice, France; Mrs. Malka Cohen – Manchester, England; and Mrs. Sima Zalmanov – Tzfas, ER”Y; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren ka”h.

    The Levaya will take place Monday, at Shomrei Hadaas in Boro Park at around 1:30. The procession will pass by 770 at around 2:30.

    The Altein family will be sitting Shiva for their father, at 1378 Union St.
