    With great sadness and deep pain we inform you of the untimely passing of Rabbi Mendy Sasonkin, OB”M, Shliach in Akron, Ohio, on Simchas Torah morning. He was 54 years old.

    He directed Chabad of Akron and Canton along with his wife and he also served as the Rabbi for the Anshe Sfard Congregation since 1995.

    He is survived by his wife Kaila and their children, Shmuli Sasonkin (Winter Park, FL), Chaim Sasonkin (Parkland, FL), Moshe Sasonkin (Kent, OH), Mussie Klein (Memphis, TN) Berele, Levi, Meir, Ari, Yossi, and Chana.

    The Levaya will take place on Wednesday at the Akron Shul Revere Road Synagogue. Times will be posted when they are announced.

    Shiva will be observed in Ohio as well as in New York following Shabbos. Times in information will be posted when it is announced.

      Condolences to the family and to the shul and the community, My late wife, Helene Sasonkin Stern, was a distant cousin of Mendy’s. We met at his father-in-law’s house any years ago.
