Did your kids have a hard time staying home all day?
Maybe you can understand us, the children of the Shluchim of South Delhi… All year round we are in a sort of “social isolation”. We learn at home, without the usual class friends, and now there’s been the Corona outbreak. We have been in complete lockdown and total isolation for 3 months at home!
Usually at this time of year, when the temperatures soar over 100° most of Delhi’s Jews fly off for a vacation and it’s our only opportunity to visit Israel and our families. This visit gives us energy and excitement for the whole year of Shlichus!
Because of the lockdown India’s skies are closed. And when they had those rescue flights, we celebrated the arrival of a new sister Besha’a Tova and it was impossible to travel.
In the meantime, the Covid numbers here are rising and there are more than 10 000 infected every day. Most of the community has left, this boiling summer is at its peak and the monsoons are on their way.
And here we are, almost the last family left – locked in to our house.
Now an opportunity has come up and it maybe a one-time opportunity.
On Thursday another rescue flight is leaving – an El Al flight to Israel. We managed to get the baby’s paperwork in order earlier today and the gates of Israel seem close.
But…
The price of this flight is very expensive. The tickets from Delhi to Bombay and onwards are around $9000 and our parents have no idea where to get the money.
How much is the happiness of one child worth? A kid who wants to come home? Multiply by 7.
